Last Saturday, hundreds of youngsters from Primary Schools around Thanet descended upon Quex Park for the second Cross Country tournament of the school sporting calendar.
With most local schools represented in four age groups, the cross country is an excellent showcase for primary sport and always fulfils its promise of being the largest competitive school event in Thanet.
Organised by Thanet Athletics Club, and supported by Thanet PASSport, the event features pupils from years 3-6 running over a predetermined course. The course itself is tough for these young runners with long grass, mud, strong winds and an undulating surface all adding to the challenge.
The runners all have their own challenges, too. Whether they are looking to gain a position on the podium, beat their personal best from a previous race or gain the personal triumph of simply finishing the course, this is a truly inclusive event.
Of course, for all its inclusivity, this is still a competitive event and the top three runners in each category were awarded with a medal and a podium finish. They even got to have their photo taken with our Eddie.
The winners for each race were as follows …
We would like to congratulate all of the runners taking part last Saturday, from the winners of each individual race to those that crossed the line with a beaming smile and a fantastic sense of personal achievement. Every single one of you were brilliant.
Special thanks must also go to Quex Park, a truly fantastic venue, to Gary at Thanet PASSport and to every one of the volunteers from Thanet AC, many of whom were setting up from 7am and who were still packing away long after I’d left.
Please take a look through our individual race galleries below and feel free to share this article with anyone who may be interested.
Although images remain the property of Educational Life CIC, we are more than happy for schools to share relevant photos on their own websites and Social Media pages … please just give us a mention, though.
High Res versions of the photos are available upon request.
