Four Canterbury Schools were represented at the recent Primary School Dance Competition, hosted by St Stephen’s Junior School.
Each school fielded two teams and individual dancers as they competed to represent the area in the Kent School Games Finals.
The competition, part of the Canterbury Academy Sports Partnership program of events, took place towards the end of May and featured over a hundred local school children from Key Stages 1 and 2. The schools participating were hosts, St Stephen’s, Canterbury Junior School, Sheldwich Primary and Wincheap Foundation Primary.
I was really impressed with the quality and complexity of the dance routines throughout the competition as both individuals and teams competed for honours. It was clear how much time, effort and organisation had gone into the youngsters’ rehearsals and that is of credit to them and their hard-working staff.
Some of the categories were extremely close, with ‘dance-offs’ being requested before the judges were able to decide upon a winner. However, these judges were very experienced and knowledgeable and soon agreed upon the final positions.
