The modern showbiz classic of Strictly Come Dancing and the traditional nativity story have been mixed to produce a lively festive show at Chilton Primary School in Ramsgate.
The Year 2 production was called Lights, Camel, Action and it was greeted with cheers and applause by pupils, families, and friends when it was performed in the main hall.
The story by author Antony Copus is based around The Bethlehem Broadcasting Company that is recording a dazzling dance show to celebrate the special occasion of Jesus’ birth and the cast is jam-packed with nativity celebrities.
Personalities, including some funky camels and a disco star, have come together again to recall their roles in the miraculous story.
It’s a Christmas celebration like never before, with dance styles ranging from tango to line dancing and ballet to disco.
Meanwhile, the judges – Caesar, the innkeeper’s wife, and a donkey – have gathered their scorecards, dancers are waiting in the wings and the audience is assembled for Lights, Camel, Action.
Meanwhile, Reception classes also took to the stage with a more traditional version of the nativity told in song, and Year 1 presented Shine Star, Shine. Every child had a speaking part in this nativity.
Head of School Kate Law said: “We have enjoyed a real mix of performances from our children, particularly from our youngest pupils who all did very well learning their lines and appearing on stage. All of our performers sang with such enthusiasm and performed with lovely smiles.
“The Year 2 team of pupils and staff put a huge amount of effort into creating a fabulous showstopper that was a fun way of embracing the Christmas story with a twist.
“Our Key Stage 2 pupils take part in a religious-based service in school with each class singing songs beautifully, accompanied by music teacher Graham Redman at the piano.”
“Chilton’s festive shows and celebrations in the weeks leading up to Christmas create special moments for us all.”
