Five elite Broadstairs catering students to attend WorldSkills UK National Finals

Five Professional Cookery students from Broadstairs College’s will be heading to the NEC in Birmingham today (Wednesday the 14 November) to compete against finalists from across the country in the WorldSkills UK National finals. With over 15,000 original applicants, our five finalists are part of the four percent of the original applicants who have made it through to the finals. Only eight students are selected per subject and Broadstairs catering alone makes up a huge 62.5 percent of the category.

For their lecturer Rob Allsworth, it is his fourth year at WorldSkills UK and these five make up part of his 11 students that have qualified under his tuition. WorldSkills veteran Rob said,

“It’s not easy, the students are put through their paces with 15 hours of competition across a two and a half day period”

Showing just how capable all the finalists are.

Apprentice, Talis O’Brien, who works for the Albion Hotel, recently said:

“I thought it would be an excellent opportunity and a positive way to step into the industry of catering” regarding the competition. She added “We spend a lot of time working with Chef Allsworth and he has been really good in helping us for the finals.”

Fellow competitor Adam Davies said:

“I’m trying to up my game professionally and prove to myself and my peers what I’m capable of.”
