Where Does the Drive Come From?
Having had several different jobs before ‘going it alone’ I felt I had a good understanding of how business worked, I am always thinking up new ideas, most of which I must agree are rubbish but some are good.
Of the good ideas, some are actionable straight away and some have been shelved until such time as to either be viable due to finances or due to available time. The ideas that are actionable now provide me with excitement and drive to be the best I can be.
When I was 16 years old I made three claims about my future which have also helped me focus and gave me drive to push forward and find a way to make them happen;
1. I would have my first child at 22 (Jack was born in November 05’, I was 22).
2. I would die at the ripe old age of 112 (still going strong so this could come true, although I don’t envy those who must put up with me until the year 2095!
3. I would be a millionaire by the age of 35 (I turned 34 on Saturday 25th Feb and so I have until the 24th February 2019 to make my first millions of my fortune, this would be the day before my 36th birthday ‘I did say by the age of 35’ not before I was 35).
So, being a dad / step-dad to 5 aged 18, 17, 11, 8 & 4 I must allow time for them, I enjoy playing sports and so I was lucky that 4 of the children are boys who love sport. My daughter suffers due to this as we often end up playing sport, on Saturday for example for my birthday we went to the beach to play rugby.
I network at least twice a week with other business owners, I enjoy making contacts to add to my list of people I can call upon when needed, I also believe that as cold calling is dead that networking is the 21st Century version of cold calling, I get to talk to people, I get to know them and their businesses and they get to know me and what I can offer, I am a strong believer in the saying ‘People buy from people’ when the time is right one or both of us will use the other person’s product or service.
Being a salesman I really enjoy talking with people, getting to know them and their needs and helping to find out how I can help them with what they need.
So, my wife and I run two businesses, one of which has just become a Community Interest Company C.I.C. we really enjoy working on this, working with the schools and businesses.
The other business provides design, logos, business cards etc. I get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment out of helping people to come up with their branding and feel a great deal of pride when they promote their business using my work.
Something I have not mentioned which may come up from time to time is my love of football, I won’t bore you with this now but if something happens it may get spoken about.
Being my first blog post I thought it made sense to give a background into me, myself and I. I am an open book and I am always ready to answer any question thrown at me.
Anyway, I think that’ll be all for now, I look forward to writing regular blogs to update you on my life, the ups, the down and the scary hairpin bends.
Until next time…….
