With the “Beast from the East” having thrown preparations for the East Kent Cup into disarray, two teams of Thanet Wanderers U9s arrived at a pleasantly dry Ashford Rugby Club, a week later than originally planned, full of enthusiasm and confidence, looking forward to their participation in the Tournament.
Wanderers continued their fine form winning 5 games, drawing 1 and came away with only 1 loss against the biggest and fastest teams in East Kent. From the off Thanet knew they were in for their biggest challenge of the season so far as their opponents, Canterbury, Deal and Sittingbourne to name but a few, had improved since their last meetings.
The opposition put Wanderers under huge pressure with wave upon wave of attacks, however they were kept out by an incredible display of tackling, to a chorus of cheers from Coaches and Supporters alike. Having soaked up the pressure it was now Wanderers chance to go on the offensive and they attacked the space, surging with power and pace and no little guile.
Our Supporters watched with delight as the players ran, passed with accuracy, supported each other and scored a number of wonderful tries. The U9s won’t rest on their laurels with their challenge only a couple of weeks away at Saracens Allianz Park and have even planned additional training sessions to make sure they are in tip top form.
Special mention must go to Charlie F, Evan and Thomas who participated in their first tournament and performed fantastically well on the day.
Well done to all the Thanet Wanderers U9’s, our Team of Players, Coaches and Supporters continues to go from strength to strength.
If you know of any U9s girls or boys that might be interested in having a laugh in the mud, we’d love to have them join the squad.
