Sir Roger Manwood’s held their annual Sports Awards Evening on Friday 13 July to celebrate the achievements of the last year.
Former Sky Sports Chief Football Reporter and author Nick Collins presented the awards and then gave a fantastic talk that gave an insight into the world of sports journalism and his times accompanying the England men’s football team at every major tournament since the 1990 World Cup.
After a potentially tough start to the year as government budget cuts had meant a reduction had to be made to the sports provision in the school, Director of Sport, Mr Chris Pearce, took the opportunity to thank parents for their financial and physical support as it meant that thanks to them, not only has sport not suffered this year, it has actually thrived, with over 350 fixtures taking place, which included being able to offer a wider range of sports than had previously been the case. He commented that,
“Alongside breakfast, lunch and after school clubs, PE and School Sport continue to be an exciting, important and thriving aspect of school life at Manwood’s. We are particularly looking forward to next year as we are now not only able to fund our fixture list in a way that has not been possible for many, many years but we are also excited about welcoming an additional member of staff to our team”.
