Sports Crew Lead The Way
News from Chilton Primary School
A varied programme of sporting activities plays a large part in life at Chilton Primary School in Ramsgate – and there is a Sports Crew of pupils leading the way.
Sports coach Emma Knight said:
“Our sports crew is a diverse group of children that together lead the planning and delivery of numerous activities and events.
“They play a fundamental role in helping the PE team with the development of PE and school sport.”
There are eight members in the Sports Crew, four boys and four girls, all from Year 6.
Their roles and responsibilities include the organisation and delivery of WOW, the Walk on Wednesday, which is an initiative to encourage parents and children to walk to school.
They also help plan and deliver an ActivePlay timetable for lunchtimes engaging all children in activities, as well as promoting after school sports clubs, raising the participation in clubs and competitions.
The Sports Crew is also involved with recording Chilton’s newly launched 1K a Day scheme where pupils complete laps of the field and playground. This encourages children to be active, adopt healthy lifestyles and how exercise is also important for mental as well as physical health.
Here is what the Sports Crew say about their roles.
“Sports captain isn’t just about wearing a badge. I represent the school, my teachers and the children. “
“I promote the school’s sports values of respect, teamwork, honesty, determination, passion and self-belief not only at school, but in competition.”
“I am very honoured to be sports captain. Being a part of the Sports Team, doesn’t just feel like a team, it feels like a mini family.”
“I am going to motivate my teams, to get the best out of them, to achieve the best we can.”
“It is such a fun job and I enjoy it so much.”
“Being a Sports Ambassador is a responsible, enjoyable, fun job that I love doing.”
“The Sports Crew is a big family and we all love our jobs.”
Chilton Primary has also received the School Games Mark gold award. The School Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme that rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.
Head of School Kate Law said:
“Sport is an important part of our pupils’ lives at Chilton whether it is as individuals or as part of one of our many teams. We encourage everyone to enjoy it and be involved in some way.
“The Gold Mark status is a reflection of the excellent work of our sports team and the way in which we embrace the sport-for-all ethos.”
Chilton Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.
Thank you to Chilton Primary School for this article and well done for receiving the School Games Mark gold award! Sport is so important in a child’s lifestyle, it’s good to see you’re taking it so seriously and have come so far.
