New Gym Receives Mayoral Seal Of Approval

A new gym was officially opened today by Ramsgate Town Mayor, Trevor Shonk. The Gym Group’s newest facility, situated next to the Saga building near Westwood Cross,  officially opened its doors to members at midday with a customary ribbon cutting.

I had a sneaky look around the impressive facilities with Mr Shonk and Gym Group staff prior to the Grand Opening and was really impressed. I worked with General Manager, Matt, when he was a lifeguard at Hartsdown Leisure Centre in the 1990s and it was really good to catch up with him and see how well he’s done for himself.

Gym Group staff and new members enjoying the facilities

Preparation for today’s opening has been going on for months, with membership recruitment, publicity drives and leaflet drops occurring throughout the Thanet towns and villages. Every detail had been meticulously planned and there was a genuine excitement and sense of anticipation amongst the members of staff as they made their way to the main entrance for the official opening.

A large group had began to gather outside and, after a short speech by Mr Shonk, the ribbon was cut and the doors were opened. For a midday opening ceremony, the number of people turning up was impressive, although there was no need to rush … this gym is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

As Mr Shonk greeted the gym’s new members I had another wander around, this time with the sounds of running machines, stationary bikes and the clanking of free weights heard over the music being pumped out of the sound system. I got the feeling that the gym’s members had settled straight in and that this venture was destined for success,

I wish Matt and his team all the best for the future and would like to thank them for showing me around and making me feel welcome.
