This Friday (June 15th) Year 11 pupils from Laleham Gap will launch their Turner Contemporary exhibition at a special private viewing in the Foyle rooms (from 6 pm – 7 pm).
It will be attended by pupils, parents, staff from Laleham Gap and there will be refreshments and speeches from Sean Litham, head of art for the school and representatives from Turner Contemporary such as Jennifer Scott, Schools Officer.
The exhibition will run over the weekend where the public can come and see the work. Turner Contemporary have been running this show with Laleham Gap school annually for several years now, and last year an amazing 6,000 came to view the students’ work!
Mr Lithman, as he was getting the artwork together, said,
“Over recent years I have got used to the pupils from Laleham Gap producing the most amazing assortment and range of well crafted and thought-provoking submissions. This year certainly hasn’t disappointed! They really are a credit to the school and to the enormous progress they have made with their art.”
This year the work is again fabulously diverse with 2D and 3D. The work goes from painting to sculpture and everything in between! There are Grayson Perry inspired pots and paintings of Ford Escorts through history! There is something for everyone.
In urging people to view the exhibition over this weekend Mr Lithman said,
“It is, of course, great to work with a World Class gallery like Turner Contemporary. It is great for our children to display in such an amazing and prestigious venue and I would like to thank them for the way they work with schools.”
Thank you for sharing your positive news with us, Laleham Gap! We are very much looking forward to coming along to look at your exhibition. Art is such an important way to express ourselves and it is an honor to have the opportunity to see your work.
