Are you aged 19-24? Looking for a new challenge and a career outside? Why not join Groundwork South’s 10 week horticulture traineeship programme. There is much more to gardening than potting plants, give it a go and you’ll get work experience and learn great skills that you use in any job.
We have Horticulture Traineeships available now in the Medway and Swale areas.
For two days each week, you will get practical horticultural training and the opportunity to gain a Level 1 City & Guilds Award in Practical Horticulture Skills. With 1:1 sessions with our Employment Advisors, you will get help with your CV, how to apply for jobs and interview technique. You will be ready to put your new skills and experience to work.
What’s more, everyone who successfully completes the course is provided with the necessary vocational skills to progress into full time employment. Currently, 2 out of every 3 trainees move into employment or further education after completing the training.
Earn yourself a Level 1 City and Guilds Practical Horticulture Skills Qualification
Commit up to 2 days per week over 10 weeks.
Learn new skills like how to transform uninspiring places through preparing the ground, planting, clearance, maintaining planted beds and constructing pathways.
Gain an Award in Practical Horticulture Skills which is for young people and adults getting started in the horticulture industry and lays the foundation for continuing study and progression.
Gain 100 hours of Related Work Experience
Work with Groundwork South and our Partners to ensure a genuine and valuable experience to strengthen your CV and enable you to plan your next career move.
This experience with help you to understand the sector and the opportunities it presents for career development.
You will also receive additional instruction in the use of tools, equipment and processes specific to an individual work placement.
Functional Skills and Employability Skills
In addition to your 100 hours of work experience, you will complete a one hour online functional skills assessment and work 1:1 with your Trainers to ensure you are ready to apply for an apprenticeship or employment at the end of the programme. You will also receive employability and functional skills training from our experienced team.
The skills you learn will help you gain confidence in job application preparation and for interviews in any sector of employment. It will provide you with examples of your ability to work in a team, show initiative and be a reliable employee. We will help you to make your application stand out from the rest.
Each participant will be provided with the necessary personal protective equipment for the work they are undertaking and will undergo a detailed induction including risk assessment and health and safety.

They are now set to deliver a series of Horticulture Traineeships in the Medway and Swale areas, with the aim of training NEET young people to bridge the gap between leaving school and starting an apprenticeship or entering into employment.
