Food Bank Gifts at Harvest Festival

A bumper crop of food bank gifts have been collected for needy families and individuals by pupils, parents and staff at Newington Community Primary School in Ramsgate.

Vital contributions to the Salvation Army food bank have been made as part of the school’s annual harvest festival celebrations which saw a generous collection of a variety of food goods.

Bulging boxes and bags were handed over to a grateful Salvation Army representative at a special gathering in the school hall that also featured music, harvest songs and drama performed by Year 6 pupils.

Teacher Chloe Smith, who co-ordinated the festival collection and celebration, said: “There was a terrific collection of food that we were able to hand over and it demonstrated how strong our sense of community is at Newington.”

Head Teacher Cliff Stokes added: “Our pupils and families always dig deep when it comes to helping others. Our harvest festival gifts and celebration were a perfect way for the whole school community to unite and celebrate how fortunate we are in life. It was a wonderful event.”
