Drapers Mills Primary Academy held a Charity Cake Sale on Tuesday to raise money for this year’s ‘Children In Need’ and a very special guest turned up.

Now, there aren’t many things I like more than a room full of delicious cakes and doughnuts (the diet starts in January) but when you throw in a World famous Charity Icon then I just have to go along to find out more. I wasn’t disappointed.

Pupils from Drapers Mills posing with Children in Need’s Pudsey

Before Pudsey had even arrived, the hall was full of excited pupils and their parents looking to buy cakes from what was, quite possibly, the largest selection I had ever seen in one place. The staff were rushed off their feet as a crowd gathered to support this fantastic cause.

As the pupils munched their way through their treats, I could see they had all made a real effort for the day. There were spots everywhere. Children and staff were wearing all kinds of outfits befitting of such a great charity day and Pudsey certainly seemed to be the main fashion inspiration.

I looked up and saw a glimpse of that famous yellow fur pass by one of the hall’s windows and it was evident I was not the only one to witness it. The buzz of excitement quickly grew as Pudsey appeared in the doorway and entered the hall, greeting families as he made his way through the crowd.

All of the youngsters, some still with traces of cake around their mouths, made their way into the next hall where Pudsey greeted them all and posed for photos.

The afternoon was a brilliant finale to what had been a day dedicated to the Children In Need charity at the school. As the children left, they waved goodbye to Pudsey, taking with them memories that will last throughout their childhoods.

Thanks to the staff and students of Drapers Mills for allowing me to be part of this great event and I hope you have fun at the big regional event at Dreamland this Friday.
