News from Chilton Primary School

Chilton Primary School in Ramsgate has been rated as outstanding in every area by Ofsted inspectors.

The clean sweep of top gradings is outlined in a comprehensive report that makes special reference to the Chilton Way – the holistic school ethos and culture created for pupils, families, staff and governors.

Ofsted state:

“Not only do pupils excel academically, but they develop and celebrate exceptional personal skills and qualities too.

Leaders at all levels unite in their shared purpose and steadfast determination to make the school the absolute best it can be. Leaders are rightfully supremely confident in what they do, but this is tempered by their humility.

Teachers and leaders expertly create an atmosphere, environment and conditions which are highly conducive to successful learning. Pupils shift from transfixed focus and concentration for some tasks to infectious delight during equally productive but more practical activities.”

Michaela Lewis is Executive Head Teacher of the Viking Academy Trust that includes Chilton, Upton Juniors and Ramsgate Arts Primary.

She said:

“This is a thoroughly deserved report. Chilton is an exceptional school all round and the Ofsted inspectors were extremely impressed with all facets of school life.”

Head of School Kate Law:

“The inspectors have clearly recognised the first class education, support and encouragement delivered by our dedicated, enthusiastic and highly talented staff offering our children and their families an excellent all-round learning experience.

The Ofsted report highlights the many strong and vibrant aspects of Chilton and we will continue to build upon this as we work hard to ensure that every child gets the very best possible from their time at our outstanding school.”

Inspectors summarised their visit to Chilton with these key findings.

*The school’s unwavering culture impeccably couples the highest aspirations for pupils with extensive support, nurture and encouragement. Pupils thrive as a result.

*Children get off to a flying start in the excellent early years provision. In an entirely age-appropriate manner, children start to experience and learn the Chilton Way from the outset, and their exciting journey through the school begins.

*Leaders have been strikingly successful in securing the consistent high quality of teaching and curriculum that is cemented across the school. Pupils of all ages make substantial progress as a result.

*Whatever the situation, pupils’ behaviour is typically impeccable. They have a strong voice in the school and benefit from deeply embedded and attentive pastoral care.

*Pupils are incredibly well prepared for secondary education by the end of Year 6.  The standards they reach at the end of key stage 2 are consistently – and often significantly – above those of other pupils nationally.

*The school benefits from exceptionally high quality governance.

Ofsted say that “leaders have correctly identified that there is scope to secure even greater consistency of challenge for pupils in subjects other than English and mathematics.”

Chilton Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust together with Upton Junior School, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.
