Years 5 and 6 pupils at Chartfield School have marked Parliament Week by holding a mock election in school.

Four Year 6 children stood as candidates for the Chartfield Labour, Save Your Planet, Environment, and Cure For Sun Cancer Parties.

The class presented an assembly to the whole school at the beginning of the week that was attended by a special guest: Sir Roger Gale, MP for Thanet North.

Sir Roger talked to the children about life in the Houses of Parliament as well as elections and democracy.

Each morning, one of the candidates read their manifesto to the school and this culminated in an election that took place at the end of the week.

The winning party was the Save Your Planet Party, whose leader was Amelia.

The party’s manifesto pledges included after-school maths clubs to help all children and adults, book clubs to improve reading and class pets to help children learn the responsibility of caring for animals.
