Thanet Secondary Cross Country Competition 2017

Effort, determination and ability are three of the key ingredients to succeed in sport and all were displayed in abundance at the Thanet Secondary School Cross Country Championships this week. The annual event, hosted by Dane Court Grammar School, was well supported and featured a plethora of running talent. The twisting and undulating course posed a few energy-sapping problems for the competitors, but they all dug in deep and prevailed. The event was a resounding success and all those present seemed to enjoy the atmosphere. Even the weather proved favourable for the runners and spectators. The races were split...

‘Hypo Awareness’ at QEQM

Diabetes UK have been holding National Awareness events this week and I was pleased to be invited to the QEQM Hospital, Margate to find out what the events were all about. Sarah, a Diabetic Nurse at the hospital, was hosting the event and staff from all the different wards were invited to the Health Hub where they were able to participate in interactive games and discussions to develop their awareness of Hypoglycaemia. As well as being great fun, the event was extremely informative. Staff from the different speciality wards were able to learn more about Diabetes and how an increased awareness could help in their day to day work. I learned lots about how to spot someone who may be experiencing hypoglycemia and how to help them. More information about Diabetes and Hypoglycemia can be found on the Diabetes UK website. I would like to thank Sarah Gregory for inviting me to the event and wish her team well for the rest of the awareness...

Sure enough, when I arrived, the Gruffalo could be seen roaming around the school grounds. Instead of being the shy, aloof creature I was expecting, he greeted me enthusiastically and explained that the Head Teacher, Miss Hatch, had invited him down to the school’s...
